USDS is a digital platform that was introduced by the then-president Obama in 2015 and served to benefit students, patients, veterans, and immigrants by revamping their disorganized and largely paper-based platforms into a streamlined digital process.

CHALLENGE
This is an introductory video for United States Digital Service. Inspired by the words of Steve Jobs, this film needs to motivate technologists to use their talents to help those who need it most. The video needs to visually interpret Steve Job’s speech, and bring up the values & missions of USDS.

SOLUTION
USDS is positioned at a peculiar niche within the government.
The very words the organization emblazons itself with - “Startup at the White House” are words that you’d never expect to hear in the same sentence. At the core of its existence, USDS is a revelation - an agile, progressive, and innovative unit situated inside a crucial and traditional behemoth.
We want this seeming contradiction to be the catalyst for our illustration and animation style. To establish a conceptual tension we transition back and forth between minimal, conceptual graphic shapes that flourish into ornate, illustrated scenes. In this way, we visualize a smart and human story with yin-yang design principles that mirror the essence of USDS.

APPROACH
Use of Steve jobs VO
Our access to Steve Jobs’ inspirational words, in his own voice, is an asset unlike any other. Our visuals aim is to let the audience think about, and get inspired by his voice, not obscure them. The animation will create visual grounding and emotion to a primarily aural experience. The illustrations are not meant to explain what USDS does, or how it functions within the government. This piece will seek to make an inspirational connection with our audience, and transition into the powerful tagline introducing the functions of USDS.STORYBOARD![]()
